5. Branch Away From Bean
It’s understandable that they’d want to establish Abbi Jacobson’s Bean in the first season. She’s a fine lead, even if the extent of her rebelliousness fluctuated a little more than it perhaps should of. She’s also had some solid lines, both in terms of laughs and exposition. But she can’t carry the show alone.
It’s not just Elfo and Luci we’re talking about either. We need more of the entire cast. Zoidberg, Hermes and Amy were background characters when Futurama started. Ditto Moe and Apu for The Simpsons. Now those are firm fan favourites, and among hardcore fans you’ll see a lot of love for even smaller characters like Malfunctioning Eddie and Professor Frink. Aside from the brilliant King Zog, Disenchantment hasn’t really delivered yet.
Matt Berry was underused and it would be great for Noel Feilding’s guest role to turn recurring. Oona felt too much like a Melania Trump knockoff but has potential, especially with Dagmar on the scene. Here’s hoping we get more of Bunty, Odval and Sorcerio too. The more characters we love, the more successful the show will be long term.
