Doctor Who: 10 Alien Worlds That Need To Be Revisited
6. Peladon - The Curse Of Peladon, The Monster Of Peladon
There's something to be said for planets in Doctor Who that have an incredibly rich culture outside of the episode. When you watch it, you feel like it's a real place, not just something that was created for a couple hours of science fiction television. Although the visuals of Peladon were not incredibly varied, it felt like it had it's own complex mythology that added a tremendous amount of depth to the story. There's an interesting subplot that pits the forward-thinking politicians directly at odds with the more traditional religious figureheads, as well as the compelling myth of the Aggedor (who, like Fluffy in Harry Potter, just needs a little bit of music to calm him down). Peladon works as the story of a developing planet, whose leaders would like it to be part of a larger galactic community, but still have a little way to go before that's attainable. That's a relatable allegory, and one that can easily be translated to our own planet on a smaller scale. Speaking of Peladon...how is it than in over fifty years of Doctor Who we've never ever seen Alpha Centauri? Get on it, Moffat.
