Doctor Who: 10 Awesome Episodes For Those Weary Of Waiting For 50th Anniversary

5. Asylum Of The Daleks

Doctor Who Asylum Of The Daleks I was trying to rank episodes in order of Ninth Doctor to Eleventh Doctor, but then that would leave this episode as number one and that is not where it ranks. Mostly because I really haven't connected with Clara as a companion yet, but this episode was where I like her the most. The Doctor, Amy and Rory are abducted and forced to help the Daleks. They are told that there is a signal coming from the core of the asylum planet where they keep insane Daleks. They would destroy the whole planet, but it would be a shame to destroy all that pure hatred. (Don't you just love the Daleks?) So they transport the Doctor and his companions to find the lone survivor of a shipwreck who has been fighting the Daleks on her own for a year. Her name is Oswin Oswald (Clara in future episodes.) She agrees to help the Doctor take down the force field if he comes to save her. The subplot of this episode is the relationship between Rory and Amy. They are on the verge of divorce. But when Amy loses her bracelet that protects her from becoming a Dalek puppet, Rory tries to give her his. The Doctor has told them that love will slow the conversion process so Rory reasons that since he loves her more, he will be able to fight it off longer. But then she reveals that she loves him too, but wanted to set him free since she can't have any more children as a consequence of time traveling with the Doctor. The Doctor goes to save Oswin, but finds that she has been not only converted, but that she has been converted into a Dalek cyborg. She had protected her mind by retreating in a fantasy of baking soufflés, but upon discovering the truth she is overcome and has to fight to keep herself from killing the Doctor. Not only does she not kill the Doctor, but she wipes the Daleks collective memory of the Doctor. Leaving them saying in unison, "Doctor Who?"

Melita is into all things Doctor Who. She is a mother of two teenagers and has raised them to be proper geeks, just like she is.
