Doctor Who: 10 Awesome Episodes For Those Weary Of Waiting For 50th Anniversary

5. Blink

David Tennat Blink I think this episode makes a lot of Whovians lists. There are few episodes that are Doctor lite that I actually enjoy, although Love and Monsters is growing on me. But the introduction of the Weeping Angels is done with downright great story telling. Sally Sparrow is taking photographs of old an abandoned house and she finds a message hidden underneath the wallpaper from the Doctor from 1969. She brings her friend Kathy to investigate, but Kathy disappears. She has been touched by an Angel and is transported back in time. Kathy's grandson brings Sally a note that he promised his grandmother (Kathy) to bring at that exact time and it tells Sally what happened to her. Sally struggles with what has happened, but goes to tell Kathy's brother that Kathy has had to go away. Kathy's brother, Larry is viewing a DVD of the Doctor. It's an Easter Egg that has been hidden on seventeen DVD's. It's half of a conversation which we find out is a transcription of Sally's eventual conversation with the Doctor. It's all very clever. The whole episode is clever, but more than that, it's scary. The "Weeping Angels are the only psychopaths who kill you kindly." They are creatures who are quantum locked and can only move when you aren't looking at them. It gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it and I'll definitely never look at a statue the same way ever again. "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead." Brilliant!
