Doctor Who: 10 Best Moments Of Series 8 So Far

8. 'You Are A Good Dalek' - Into The Dalek

Every Doctor has to face the Daleks (unless you are Paul McGann, in which case you are fobbed off with unseen squeaky-voiced ones) so it was no surprise when Peter Capaldi came eyebrow to eyestalk with his oldest enemy in only his second episode. But it was perhaps a surprise to find out that the two opponents were more alike than the Time Lord cared to admit. Connecting his mind to damaged Dalek 'Rusty', the Doctor sought to alter the creature's mindset to make it good. However, the overriding emotion it got from the Doctor was not love or compassion but hatred. A hatred it unleashed on its invading fellow Daleks, yes, but the revelation was still a soulful blow to the Doctor. This was helped no end when Rusty proclaimed to him that, while the Dalek itself was no longer one, the Doctor was 'a good Dalek.' It's a shocking scene and one which brings to a head the running theme in the episode of the Doctor's newly-found murky morality. However, more impressively, it also acts as a counterpoint to a line from a previous Dalek episode from nearly ten years ago, when another 'corrupted' pepperpot told the Ninth Doctor 'you would make a good Dalek.' Now, it seems the Doctor's conversion is complete.
