Doctor Who: 10 Best Moments Of Series 8 So Far

9. Brain Soup - Time Heist

That age-old argument - 'is Doctor Who too scary for kids?' - reawakened this year in light of two episodes on the trot being deemed to feature scenes of an excessively horrific nature. One of these was from the otherwise snappy crime caper of an episode Time Heist. When the Bank of Karabraxos' security guard, the monstrous Teller, detects guilt in a customer he precedes to punish the criminal - by feeding off the man's brainwaves, leaving him a vegetable with a caved-in cranium. For one thing, this is the sort of grisly-but-not-really-too grisly scene that kids lap up and so is perfect for Doctor Who but also it is a great display of the nasty powers of the best monster this year, the Teller. With his fabulous design, the Teller proves once again that aliens trump robots and good ol'-fashioned monster suits are superior to CG creations. Overall, this might not be the most touching, funniest or dramatic entry on this list but it is a standout scene from its episode, making it one of the most memorable moments of the run so far. And, no, don't question why the man's head is concave when that would mean his skull was liquefied rather than his brain. Don't even think it. Or the Teller will come and do the same to you...
