Doctor Who: 10 Best NuWho Villains That Only Appeared Once
5. The Family of Blood
Episode: Human Nature/The Family of Blood To make a list of the best Doctor Who two-parters, without Human Nature/The Family of Blood being somewhere near the top would be sacrilege. And while the Russell T Davies era is filled with many great two part episodes, this one takes the cake. It was a great story for three main reasons, first David Tennant as The Doctor/John Smith, second Freema Agyeman in her best episodes of the whole series and third, the menacing Family of Blood. The only gripe against the Family, is that we never see their true form, the reveal of which could have made for an interesting scene. Nevertheless the lack of actual alien form gives the actors a chance shine. As each of them conveys as sense of fear and menace through body language and voice alone. Particularly Viserys Targaryen, scratch that, Harry Lloyd as Son of Mine. The Family of Blood occupy an unusual niche in the Doctor Who hall of infamy in that they are drawn to The Doctor, in order to fulfil their desire to live forever. Rather then The Doctor stumbling across a villain, or the TARDIS taking him directly to one, they give us a reason for all the horrible things that happened thereafter. In the end it was a case of be careful what wish for, for the Family, as The Doctor punishes them, rather cruelly, by designing for each member of The Family their own personal hell where they can live forever.
