Spot the parallels between Doctor Who and Sherlock: the main character is killed, the companion is devastated; the main character actually survived, the companion never knew about the plan, and the companion is angry when they find out, only to warm up later. Whilst Sherlock took the route of planting clues to the fake death, Doctor Who chose not to, as it was revealed that the Doctor had used a Teselecta to hide in. Amy had even speculated that it might be a duplicate, a suggestion rubbished at the time. It was somewhat disappointing though that a whole series' worth of progression, of the Doctor reflecting on his role in the universe, and deciding it was probably best for him to die, was in fact cancelled out by a final five minutes that revealed him to have actually used Amy's idea all along. Unfortunately, Mycroft had no part to play in faking the death.
