2. What If The First And Second Doctor Are The Same Person? Or The Second And Third?

If the "Which Doctor is which" section of this article frustrated you, click "Next" now. It's a common theory that the Second Doctor might really just be a renewal of William Hartnell's character, and not a
true regeneration. It's even more common that the Third Doctor isn't
really a new Doctor either, given that the Time Lords simply changed his face. But when you start to wonder deeper if regeneration is totally a lie as you know it, you get some mind-bending what ifs. What if
true regeneration is simply regeneration that doesn't use the TARDIS? That would only make Christopher Eccleston the... fifth body the Doctor's been through? What if
true regeneration is actually the type that uses the yellow light? Or what if that's not true regeneration at all? Did the Eighth Doctor have a proper regeneration if it was controlled? And is Colin Baker still the Doctor, given that he never came back to film his regeneration scene? We'll get the answer soon, of course. But until then, just spend five minutes wondering over any of these possibilities, and Moffat's power to enforce them. What a confusing and irritating twist that would be, right?
