1. The Doctor Chose For The TARDIS To Remain As A Police Box
If you've never seen 'An Unearthly Child', I urge you to watch it. It was on during the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the show, and it's an incredible piece of television, considering it was the very first serial. And the first episode of anything is the most difficult, because you have to fake experience that you don't have at it. 'An Unearthly Child' joins the Doctor midway into his time on the run in a raggedy old TARDIS, and whilst we don't see the start of very much - the Doctor and Susan already have the TARDIS, a relationship, etc. - one first that we see for the Doctor is that the TARDIS doesn't change guise when it lands somewhere new. The Doctor remarks about how strange that is; he's a bit confused about it, but gets over it, such is the Doctor. But wouldn't it be a lovely twist if he'd decided that he wanted to keep the phone box design on purpose?
