Doctor Who: 10 Great Writers For Future Series

7. Dan Harmon

Notable Work: Community, Rick and Morty, Monster House Dan Harmon is a god of Cult TV, and behind one of the best sitcoms to come out of America in ages. His love of Doctor Who is apparent in the spoof show Inspector Spacetime he created in Community- so why not give him a crack at the genuine article? Harmon can write, that much is obvious. Like, really write. His scripts are full of humour and heart, and some of his arcs and complex ideas ape even Moffat's. He's the perfect choice for a one-off episode, and one of television's more unique voices. He could certainly stand toe-to-toe with Moffat and challenge whatever the showrunner's overall vision is if it clashes with ideas Harmon might have. And that's not necessarily a bad thing for either man. One could even argue Harmon would be great as a showrunner (or at least a co-showrunner) in future years, despite being American. But that's another argument for another time. If he has his way, he'll be offering the show something surreal, heartfelt and oh-so witty. Out of everyone on this list, Harmon seems the most natural choice- and if Community isn't renewed for a Sixth Season (and a Movie), then there may just be enough time for him to squeeze it in.
