Doctor Who: 10 Incredible Early Designs Of Your Favourite Monsters

1. The New Cybermen Would have Traumatised A Generation

CyberThe Creature You Know: Unlike other resurrected villains from the classic series, the Cybermen exist in Nu-Who in a completely new continuity. Originally coming from an alternate universe, they€™ve since been retconned to be from our own, but still of completely different origins to the traditional, gold fearing, Mondasian kind. It€™s pretty logical when you think how tacky the original designs looked, but this new type could have gone a little too far. The Early Design You Don€™t: Take a look at that face and tell me you€™re not going to have nightmares tonight. That almost went out across the airwaves to an audience of almost ten million. It€™s as if someone tried to recreate a Cyberman from The Tenth Planet while on a horrific acid trip. However, either way you take the Cybermen (as alternates to or cyborgs made from humanity), it does actually work as a design; there€™s enough humanity to the face contrasting with those literally empty eyes to conjure up equal fear and sympathy (all that remains of the later in the final version is that moulded €˜tear€™). Sadly, this is Doctor Who, not Game Of Thrones, and that sort of stuff doesn't fly. A glorious if utterly terrifying reimagining of the villain. Just a shame it went that bit too far. Which of these do you wish we'd got to see? Do you know of any more Doctor Who concept art? Let us know about it down in the comments.
