Doctor Who: 10 Incredible Early Designs Of Your Favourite Monsters

2. Auntie And Uncle Were Going To Go Full Frankenstein

NephewThe Creature You Know: Neil Gaiman€™s first writing job for the show, The Doctor€™s Wife, has become something of a fan classic since it premiered amidst the River Song centric arc of Season 6. Although the artron energy feeding House and human trapped TARDIS took much of the praise, Auntie and Uncle, two servants of the former entity and formed from the body parts of numerous lost travellers were certainly a creepy addition that helped make House€™s asteroid feel like an odd sort of home. The Early Design You Don€™t: While in the episode both characters had the odd different limb or facial feature, the original concept went all out, throwing in seven different creatures together just to make Uncle€™s face. The art fully commits to the idea of cobbled together creatures and with Uncle's stitches giving a forced grimace (ala Heath Ledger€™s Joker) it creates something less empathetic that the final product. Unfortunately, the episode was pushed back a season and the extra time allowed the producers to re-evaluate just how scary these designs were. The one on the right is the original Nephew, who was changed to an Ood because even in 2011 Doctor Who loves reusing old costumes.
