Doctor Who: 10 Irritating Nu-Who Trends That Need To Die
2. The Day Of The Superfan Showrunner At some point, Nu-Who is going to have a showrunner that wasn't a huge fan of the original series and who didn't spend the 90s writing New Adventures. That's inevitable. It's going to happen. In fact, once Steven Moffat leaves the show - and that is also going to happen eventually - there are really only two superfan options left to replace him; Chris Chibnall and Mark Gatiss. (It's worth noting Neil Cross as a possible third option, however he wasn't an active force in the 90s superfan community the way that the other two were. Also, Luther is incredible.) While either option is possible as a replacement for Steven Moffat, both seem unlikely. Chris Chibnall is the marginally more likely option, but he seems disconnected from Nu-Who production and has in any case plenty of other irons in the fire. Gatiss, on the other hand, is tight with Moffat and has produced some solid work - particularly An Adventure in Space and Time - and yet it has to be acknowledged that his scripts for Nu-Who by and large have felt somewhat... uninvolving. By and large it seems most likely that after Moffat leaves he'll be replaced by a showrunner that views Nu-Who as just another television show, and not an indelible icon of their childhood. This will be a good thing. Past producers who were not superfans of the show going in - Barry Letts, Phillip Hinchcliff, and most importantly - Verity Lambert.
