Doctor Who: 10 Monsters That Should Come Back In Series 9

5. The Dream Lord

The Doctor€™s most powerful tool is his mind, so any villain that challenges him on that level is always worth the screen time and The Dream Lord was one such villain. A psychic manifestation of the darker parts of the Doctor€™s character, he was given life by psychic polled that was stuck in the time rotor of the TARDIS. As a result, the Dream Lord could control the dreams of others however he wished, putting the Doctor, Amy and Rory into life like situations in order to test them, with one scenario having them share the same dream like horror sequence. Unfortunately, the conclusion of the Dream Lord€™s story pretty much wrapped up the character after the Doctor realised it was all just fakery. Having said that, the end of the episode does hint that the Dream Lord can never truly be defeated and will lie within the Doctor, so perhaps we could see him coming back under the control of a larger villain, who uses the Dream Lord to test the Doctor's wits in another battle of the mind. Even more interestingly, he could be used as a pre-story for the return on the Valeyard, another manifestation of the Doctor€™s darker side.
