6. From 'Survival'...
"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace. We've got work to do." The Doctor
The Seventh Doctor was capable of a winding monologue and often, a manipulative speech. But this quote in the Classic Series's final episode is one that he should really be remembered for. It's such an eye-opening description; the "burning" coupled with the words "dream" and "asleep" suggest that someone out there needs some help. The evocative imagery of smoke and song is also dazzlingly beautiful and alluring, and the idea that danger and injustice lies in these places implies complex and multi-layered worlds waiting to be explored. But it's the final quote of the tea getting cold, that obviously makes the phrase. Because whilst it's so easy to focus on the drama of saving a world and uncovering its beauty to discover its corruption, sometimes, the most wonderful lives revolve around the tiniest of details. It's a wonderful quote, a terribly British idea and it's a highlight of Sylvester McCoy's time in the TARDIS.
