Doctor Who: 10 Questions That Need Answering From The Day Of The Doctor Trailers

3. What Is 'The Moment'?

Doctor Who Jhur Thanks to 'The End of Time' we know that the Doctor ended the Time War using something called 'the Moment', that it wiped out all of the Daleks and the Time Lords, destroyed Gallifrey and (I'm presuming at the same time) time-locked the Time War. The episode itself will bring answers, but the trailer seems to suggest that when Hurt is standing in front of this Tardis console-like device, complete with glowing red jewel on top, he is about to use the Moment. We at least know how Tennant feels about great, big, threatening buttons. So let's assume Hurt is in front of 'the Moment'. How does it work exactly? The Doctor also appears ready to use 'the Moment' while not involved in the Time War himself, meaning he would use it at a remote location to end the war from afar. The End of Time also backs this up as it is explained the Doctor has disappeared from Gallifrey whilst in possession of 'the Moment'. On top of this, where did it come from and why is it the only answer to end the Time War?
