2. What Exactly Is The Story?
Quickly pulling back to look at the big picture, very little on the whole is concrete in terms of what is really going on. We last saw Clara discovering Hurt in the Doctor's time stream and Smith explaining that Hurt is his "secret" along with some cryptic words that what Hurt did was "in the name of peace and sanity". The rest is left up to vague interpretation. Ask a Doctor Who fan what this episode is actually going to be about and the best they can say is "the Time War". One key question arises when trying to unearth the plot of 'The Day of the Doctor'. Assuming the natural course of events is that the Doctor uses 'the Moment' and ends the Time War, what is the story for Tennant, Smith and Hurt to explore together? They aren't fighting anything or anyone. There's technically no threat considering the Time War has already happened from Tennant and Smith's perspective and as much of a difficult decision it was, I don't think the Doctor would choose to undo it and prolong a war. We can only assume that the special sees the Doctor unfortunately reliving the day he ended the Time War and having the opportunity to change his decision. Out of this can come a range of results, from his life potentially being rewritten to the Time Lords making a full scale, permanent return but still, the force that pushes these Doctors together remains a mystery. As Tennant asks in the trailer "Why are we all together? Why are we all here?"
