Doctor Who: 10 Reasons David Bradley Should Star In More First Doctor Adventures

3. The First As Prophet

Eoin Colfer Book A Big Hand For The Doctor As Eoin Colfer's 50th anniversary e-book 'A Big Hand For The Doctor' showed us with surprising ease-it's possible to go back and retroactively add elements to the character. Set before 'An Unearthly Child', the tale of the Doctor's quest to rescue Susan from the Soul Pirates as well as getting the eponymous hand as a replacement for the lost original can be read as so much more than a 'Peter Pan' rip-off and could even serve as a blueprint for David Bradley's TARDIS travels. Pardon us if we don't dwell on the mental image of Bill Hartnell in a lovely pair of green tights though. Having seen visions of future selves as he does in this tale the scene is practically set. After his prophetic 40 winks and a quick flash of the incarnation in question he could easily set course to rescue them having made the relevant telepathic contact. Which could in turn put a whole new spin on his televised meetings with them unless of course he somehow forgets the events of these particular adventures to preserve his established telly timeline. After all he does have a bit of a senior moment in 'The Day Of The Doctor' in forgetting that one of the many Claras nudged him towards the very TARDIS he chooses to travel. An oversight which sets up quite a mystery for his Eleventh self down the line-though it would be a shame to simply relegate the First into the role of senile old gent his other selves are having to pick up the slack for. As a fun Bradders fact note the Doctor's reference to Hogwarts and the Harry Potter universe in ' A Big Hand For'..Filch fans rejoice.
