Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Reece Shearsmith Should Appear In Future Second Doctor Adventures

2. The Doctor As Napoleon

Doctor Who Napoleon Now that we've mentioned ' World Game', let's now posit an interesting alternative timeline for Waterloo. What if the Doctor goes so deep undercover he goes native and starts to think that he actually is Napoleon? It could be explained as being a machination of the Valeyard with a little help from the Dark Matrix in a bid to overturn established history. Or a little revenge on the War Chief's part with the whole thing playing out in a War Zone designed as a replica of the battlefields of the period and a hypnotised Doctor made to believe he's the French Emperor. Either scenario could work. Ratcheting things up a notch lets add in a few more interesting bits to spice it all up. If David Bradley's First Doctor had appeared in a slightly rewritten 'Reign Of Terror,' a prequel/sequel could be added in in which he meets Bonaparte and doesn't realise its a future self on a tangent. Or a reversal in which he makes the connection and is forced to both stop and then help his next incarnation break whatever conditioning he's under. And if Colin Baker's game a key addition could be made to 'The Curse Of Davros' €“ it already features the Sixth Doctor, the Daleks and their creator in the midst of the great historical battle with Davros keen to basically turn Bonaparte into a human Dalek. But what if another timeline in which it wasn't the Frenchman but the Doctor's earlier self who was somehow leading the French troops? The older Doctor would have even more incentive to intervene in history and attempt to save the man he would/had come across in 'The Two Doctors'. This sort of thing's been done before in 'The Man In The Velvet Mask,' as the First comes across a France ruled by the Marquis De Sade so it wouldn't entirely be a leap into the unknown. With the chance of further stories set further down the man the Third Doctor called 'Boney's march towards conquest €“ Egypt and Russia having been explored in that regard in 'The Eye Of The Scorpion' and ' Emotional Chemistry' €“ it must be a candidate for further exploration. And not inconsequentially, its revealed the Doctor keeps a bust of Bonaparte in the TARDIS in the novelisations of both the first ever Dalek story and 'The Crusaders' as well as 'State Of Change' and ' Shadowmind,' and tried on a similar outfit following his regeneration into his Seventh incarnation.
