Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Reece Shearsmith Should Appear In Future Second Doctor Adventures

6. The League Of Gentlemen Reunited

Doctor Who Strackman Lux If Gatiss was showrunner in any medium, the chance of a League Of Gentlemen reunion of sorts within the Whoniverse throws up a number of possibilities. The Second Doctor as played by Shearsmith could meet Steve Pemberton's Strackman Lux or a member of the extended Lux clan in a foreshadowing of the later 'Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead' double header with the Tenth as just one. Or Danny Boy could run into the recorder enthusiast in another wartime adventure during his sterling service as a Spitfire pilot. Perhaps Gantok could enjoy a nice game of live chess with a strange man in a stovepipe hat years before he meets the Eleventh in 'The Wedding Of...' Surely they'd relish the chance to redo or adapt 'The Mind Robber', too. With their propensity for dressing up and strange characters a trip into the Land of Fiction wouldn't be such a bad idea. With a line-up possibly including Gatiss as the Karkus and Pemberton as the Master of the Land among many others its not impossible. A quick look over Peter Ling's original script and they could easily divvy up the various parts among themselves and call in a few friends if necessary. Its possible that it could prove a great chance for Shearsmith to show off an ease with duality. As well as portraying the Doctor he could probably pull off Lemuel Gulliver, Sir Lancelot and Blackbeard as obvious choices from the original cast of the 1968 journey into the White Void. And if they were feeling ambitious they could add bits and call it a sequel. Pemberton as the Toymaker in a prequel/sequel to 'The Celestial Toymaker' and Gatiss as his Unbound incarnation of the Master in a parallel universe are just a few of the many possible contenders for additions to any series alongside adaptations of the classics from 'Power Of The Daleks' to ' The War Games'.
