Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Why The Show Should Return To The Classic Format

1. More Classic UNIT Moments

Doctor Who Unit Admit it, you miss them even minus the late great Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, although maybe less so Bambera from ' Battlefield' or the annoying Welsh bloke from ' Planet Of The Dead', but still €“ ' chap with the wings, five rounds, rapid!.' RIP, Brig. And what better tribute to the great man than giving his daughter ( Kate, as introduced in ' The Power Of Three') more chances to show herself as a worthy successor to her dear old dad? Yes, she and they are in ' The Day Of...' too, but will they be a proper fighting force like the third New Who series or glorified security? Arguably their role's never really been too clearly defined, but it has to be one or the other. They're simply too inconsistent €“ whether it means making them more proactive as seen in ' The Invasion', ' Invasion Of The Dinosaurs' & ' Battlefield' or the headless chickens ripe for the slaughter, Commander Skorr's observation that ' this isn't war, this is sport!' made painfully true seen on their return in ' The Sontaran Stratagem/ 'The Poison Sky,' they're clearly still missing the fine leadership and indeed moustache of their fallen chief. But wouldn't it be fascinating to see how close Kate sticks to daddy's rules or whether she differs in approach? ' Inferno' offered us an all-too-brief look at what was basically a UNIT gone feral, and the possibility of further adventures in that alternative dimension should excite most, as well as providing a possible introduction to its concepts for those too young to know the joys of stirring your tea with scientific equipment or communicating in the eyebrow language of Delphon. So let's see them with a modern twist, but retaining the spirit of old. Not too much to ask, you'd think, in this day and age. So that's what I think. What do you think? Feel free to comment!
