Doctor Who: 10 Steps To Falling In Love With Peter Capaldi

4. Mutual Respect

Sometimes the very things we first dislike about a potential new love end up being what make us fall head over heels for them. This is certainly the case with Peter Capaldi€™s Doctor and it is to the credit of the writing and acting that it is possible to be fascinated, compelled, intrigued and amused by this new incarnation. Leaving Clara to fend for herself becomes showing her respect and not assuming she constantly needs help or guidance. His being wrong and fallible makes him more human while his alien enthralment with all things new lets the audience rediscover things they thought they already knew. Clara€™s acceptance of the new Doctor for who he is may come a little later than for the audience, but once it did, the dynamic between them becomes far more even footed than ever before. By the time Flatline came along endearment has started to give way to genuine affection. It might not be the same as when we loved Matt Smith, but no two loves are ever the same.

I.T. Consultant, technophile and Doctor Who fan. I like to talk about tech, take films apart and make excuses for Doctor Who's continuity errors. No other show has the power to make me feel like a big kid.
