Doctor Who: 10 Things We Learned In The Caretaker

New revelations about Danny, Clara, the Doctor and The Promised Land in this week's episode...

As we reached the half way point of series eight, The Caretaker was an episode that took stock of every development so far, bringing some character story lines to a head, while giving us plenty to ponder on the Promised Land arc. It didn't quite have the revelations of Listen, but it still served as an opportunity to send the relationships between the Doctor, Clara and Danny in an interesting new direction. But most importantly, The Caretaker provided us with plenty of fun, giving Peter Capaldi a chance to let loose on his dry comic-timing and Jenna Coleman to dazzle with another understated performance. The alien threat was a but rubbish though, but naffness of the Skovoz Blitzer aside, it was an episode that served to progress Clara's journey as the two men in her life finally met. It was - to put it bluntly - a train wreck, but given the Doctor's aversion to soldiers, did we expect anything else? Interesting though was Danny's reaction to Clara's secret life, the revelation that the new school caretaker was an alien and his keen understand of the kind of character this leading hero was. Because six episodes in, the jury's still out on how much of a hero this Doctor is and how much the events of his past and his ruthless nature threaten to undo all the good he has done. In this article, we look at 10 big things we learned in The Caretaker and ponder where these revelations might take the show in the future...
