Doctor Who: 10 Things Series 8 Must Do To Be The Best Yet

7. Toss In A Surprise Or Two

On the lighter side of things, managing to pull off some sort of surprise is especially important for series eight. A well-placed shocker is always good for a programme whose fundamental spirit is the unexpected. But because surprises were such a big part of last year's festivities, it becomes especially important to find a way to add one in this year. Series eight cannot risk the impression that last year has pulled out all the stops to impress us. It must instead remind us it has magic left all its own. While this gets harder and harder to do in the age of instantaneous global information sharing, even if it gets spoiled a touch early the effort will be worth the reward. The life of the Doctor is all about serendipity, so try as we might and speculate as we do, it is secretly wonderful when things land somewhere we were not planning for either.
