Doctor Who: 10 Ways To Improve The Show

8. Go Back To RTD Basics

Doctor Who Billie Piper Puir As much as I find the Moffat era fascinating and intellectually stimulating (albeit a bit baffling with the Clara episodes) and I'm looking forward to see how it all comes together in the big 50th special where I hope all will be revealed, I still miss the Russell T. Davies era. I miss stand alone episodes. I miss the story arc being unraveled so softly that you don't realize there was a through-line until all the seemingly unconnected loose bits come together, such as in the whole Donna storyline. For me, Moffat has gone timey-wimey over-drive. I'm beginning to resent having to watch an episode a few times to understand it and then the whole series in sequence to get the actual meaning of the season. It is clever, but I miss the days when the episodes were more character-driven. My favorite episodes from Moffat are not the flashy big ones but the ones with Craig, Vincent Van Gogh, the Doctor getting to meet the soul of the Tardis or River being born from Mel and saving the Doctor after killing him. So really, the message is simple €“ give me more episodes that touch my heart, not confuse my brain!
