Doctor Who: 11 Funniest Moments From The Eleventh Doctor

10. The God Complex

Series 6. Episode 11. 24 September 2011. The Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive in what appears to be a chintzy 80s hotel and what follows is 45 very funny minutes - funny lines, funny characters and some classic Matt Smith wordplay. First The Doctor meets Gibbis and knows he's from the planet Tivoli because of his "pathological compulsion to surrender". Gibbis explains that Tivoli is "the most invaded planet in the galaxy. Our anthem is called Glory To Insert Name Here". The Doctor asks Rita and Howie to explain what's going on and they tell him that walls move and corridors change. When Rory asks if anyone's ever considered just leaving by the front door, The Doctor throws open the front doors to reveal a wall. "They're not doors, they're walls", he explains. "Walls that look like doors. Door-walls, if you like, or dwalls. Woors even, though you'd probably got it when you said they're not doors". Then he makes the same discovery with the windows: "Big day if you're a fan of walls". When he's told the rooms have things in them, he's like an excited child. "Things? Hello! What kind of things? Interesting things? I love things, ask anyone". For The Doctor this sequence is like a combination of the kid, the candy store and Christmas Eve all at once!

I'm just a guy who loves words. I discover vast tracts of uncharted enjoyment by chucking words together and coming up with stuff that talks about the things I enjoy and love most. I'm also a massive listaholic, so I'm probably talking about a list, looking at a list or banging away at another What Culture list as you read this. My tone's pretty relaxed and conversational, with a liberal sprinkling of sparkling wit, wilting sarcasm and occasional faux-condescension - with tongue almost always firmly planted in cheek.
