800 episodes and only temporarily out: that is quite a record. The Time Of The Doctor was another serious event episode and one that took its 800th episode status as an invitation for scale and scope, as well as sending Matt Smith off with another high-point that drew several loose ends together and brought back fan favourite villains. The episode felt like a fond farewell to Smith, a greatest hits compilation to usher him off into the great unknown, and the only real criticism would be that it should have been longer. That way the complex plot might have had more time to breathe, and the competing elements might have meshed slightly more naturally. Karen Gillan was forced to wear a wig for her reprisal of Amy Pond having shaved her head for The Guardians Of The Galaxy.
