Replacing Rose was always going to be a difficult prospect, but the manner of Donna's appearance - bedecked in a wedding gown and shouting blue murder at having been abducted - was the perfect antidote (or at least a good distraction). This Christmas special might have been a little sillier than much that had come before it, but it did fit with the screening date, and while its Christmassiness was compromised somewhat by being shot in summer, it was still a very entertaining special. This was also the first Doctor Who show ever to be broadcast with in-vision British Sign Language interpretation, in a UK repeat on 30 December 2006.
