Doctor Who: 5 Best And 5 Worst Companion Send-Offs

3. Ian And Barbara

Amy and Rory may have been the first married couple on the TARDIS, but Ian and Barbara were clearly going to tie the knot as soon as they got back home. Eventually the Doctor did indeed manage to get them home, albeit a year late. Shades of what happened later with Rose arriving home later than planned. It might have been nice to watch Ian and Barbara as they tried to explain where they'd been for a year, and why one of their students disappeared at the same time, but it's ok that we didn't get that. 1960s television wasn't about such things. No, all we got was the two of them going home, and that's as it should have been. And it really was a great little send-off for the two characters. They€™d just defeated the Daleks, and were finally back home. Yes, it was two years later than it should have been, and boy was the Doctor not happy about them leaving, but now we in the audience knew they could finally go live the lives they wanted, and settle down and get married. There wasn€™t any grand, universe-changing shift here, and there didn't need to be. They just€went home. That is a perfectly fine way to end someone's story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYVd7GKTLWo
