Doctor Who: 5 Best And 5 Worst Companion Send-Offs

1. Susan

The first departure is also the best. The Doctor€™s granddaughter, Susan, had found love with a young rebel on a future version of Earth. The Doctor made a choice to leave her behind so that she could have a good and happy life. It was an odd choice in many ways, but it did lead to one of those few moments where the Doctor gave a proper goodbye to one of his companions. Now we can complain at length about how odd it was that the Doctor left his (apparently), fifteen-year-old granddaughter on what was to her an alien world, decimated by years of warfare and occupation, in the arms of an adult male whom she'd only just met. But while it was odd, it did work, and it also laid the ground for not just the great "goodbye" speech from the Doctor, but also for a great deal of spin-off fiction following Susan's life as she tried to help with the rebuilding of Earth and raise her son. And frankly, there are worse reasons to leave the TARDIS than falling in love, even if staying behind wasn't exactly Susan's choice. So while it was a weird way to send off the character, it worked, and it gave us that great speech. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um5Cn5eHsGo
