4. Carnival Of Monsters
What It's About: The Doctor and Jo take the TARDIS on a test flight, and they land on a cargo ship in the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately, the Doctor realises that the ship is in fact the SS Bernice, which disappeared without trace in the middle of the ocean back in 1926. He also discovers that he has materialised inside a Miniscope a banned peepshow of miniaturised life forms. The owners are Lurman entertainers Vorg and Shirna who are trying to make a quick profit from Inter Minor natives despite the device being banned across the universe. The Doctor manages to escape from the Scope, but so do the deadly Drashigs, beasts that can and will destroy anything in its path.
Why I Would Like A Remake: This is a really great story, and I don't want it remade because it fell short, because it really didn't. Okay, like with The Green Death, the monstrous Drashig was not the greatest monster of all time.It could've looked dangerous if done right with the right amount of money, but without it, it just looked naff. I'm sure if they did it now, they would be a lot more frightening. But overall this is a great story so it hasn't made the list because it is wasted potential or that it's a poor story. It has a great rapport between Vorg and Shirna and the Doctor's relationship with both of them. The Doctor is repulsed that such a device was being used for amusement. However, there is far much more they can do now than they could in the 70s it would be a perfect showcase of different monsters both past and present, as they did with Doctor Who: Live. They basically need to remake that stage show for the main series. Recast Nigel Planner again, and have the Doctor, Cybermen, Ood, Zygons, Ice Warriors, Weeping Angels etc all trapped inside the Miniscope by a relative of Vorg played by Planner. The Doctor goes through section-by-section fighting monsters and trying to escape, all while the showman is trying to sell it to anyone that'll listen. Such a scenario would lead to a similarly interesting showdown with the Doctor at the end. In fact with Peter Capaldi looking like he could possibly go back to the Hartnell/Pertwee side way of portraying the Doctor, then this sort of confrontation is exactly the tone he should try to maintain.
