Doctor Who: 5 Key Celestial Interventions

4. 'Genesis Of The Daleks'

Genesis Of The Daleks One of the Fourth's best stories is also technically a CIA mission. Intercepting the transmat beam he, Sarah and Harry thought was taking them to Nerva, the Director of Allegiance Lord Ferain gives them all a very important diversion. They're to go to Skaro and avert the creation of the Daleks by any means. Given a time ring to get back to the TARDIS once they're done off they pop to see what they can do. Thrown into the middle of a war between the Kaleds and the Thals the Doctor soon notices that 'Kaled' is a very foreboding anagram of something and must be stopped. After a few attempts at getting past General Ravon they're taken into custody by Nyder- who most will known is Davros's most trusted lieutenant in his bid to transgress the Scientific Corps and become ruler of the universe. Sarah-Jane, having been left for dead in the midst of all this, soon gets a first hand glimpse of just how Davros plans to go about his strategy when she witnesses his first attempt to test the offensive capabilities of these Mark III travel machines...and so the scene is set for the first great battle between two well-matched adversaries. It also poses one of the biggest quandaries of the Doctor's travels. Does he have the right to bring about the final end of the Daleks? See below for one of the best meetings of minds classic 'Who' ever produced... And in a sense the mission is a success as the metal dictators are set back a few thousand years and alliances are forged on mutual fear of them. So the bescarfed one and his friends can use the Time Ring safe in the knowledge that they've at least accomplished something and head off to face the Cybermen with at least some job satisfaction knowing the CIA won't be calling again in a while. Give it at least until 'The Brain Of Morbius'.
