Doctor Who: 5 Key Celestial Interventions

1. Unregenerate!

Unregenerate Following his sixth regeneration the Doctor is thrust into perhaps the CIA's most ambitious mission yet. They're making an attempt to transfer TARDIS consciousnesses into living hosts in a foreshadowing of 'The Doctor's Wife', and Professor Klyst, Louis and Rigan are all Intervention Agents. The man with the questionable pullover is quickly thrown into the heart of the Institute and its experiments- which serve as a means by which the Time Lords can monitor the development of time-travel among what they deem less responsible species. They've even managed to get around the problem of forcible erasure of the host's original mind by only selecting bodies which are close to death... The Time Agents have played a part, too. They've deliberately been slowing up the aforementioned work on travel through space and time by impeding the process of temporal mechanics research of other species. But the Institute still managed to hold time-sensitive inmates from a mind boggling 50 worlds around the universe-mercifully not including Daleks after the failure of another Time Lord, Helgrim, in his experiments on uncased Dalek mutants forced the passage of a law implicitly forbidding their study. Which all provides a nice lead of sorts into 'The Shadows Of Avalon' and the creation of the Type 102 sentient TARDIS after a merger between the Eighth Doctor's companion Compassion and a remote receiver is followed by a full blown transformation when her biodata becomes warped. Lady President Romana knows the Type 102 will be a key piece of Time Lord technology in the Second War In Heaven and so sends agents Gander and Cavis to both observe and assist in its creation. In comparison 'The Doctor's Wife' is a walk in the park- though House's plot to drain artron energy from TARDISES does bear certain similarities to Unregenerate! The ending's definitely more of a tearjerker though.
