Doctor Who: 50 Unanswered Questions

1. How Old Is The Doctor Really?

The 3rd Doctor said he that he had been a scientist for "several thousand years" (The Mind of Evil). The 4th Doctor said that he was "something about 750." The 6th Doctor said he was 900 years old while the 10th claimed to be 903 (Voyage of the Damned). So how can we figure out The Doctor's Age? First, between The Doctor's talent for exaggerating and straight up lying, nothing The Doctor says about his age is to be trusted. Second, with so many years under his belt, he appears to have simply lost track of his birthdays, so he is a doubly unreliable source. Third, do years even have the same meaning to Time Lords and humans? We assume that he calculates his age the same way we do but what if he doesn't? Also, could his age have been altered by the machinations of the Time Lords during the course of the Time War or perhaps he has chosen to act like those years never happened? The mysteries surrounding The Doctor are a key contributor to the longevity of Doctor Who. While fans want to know more, perhaps it is good that show runners have never given away too many of The Doctor's secrets. It's the lingering and intriguing mysteries that give fans much to speculate about and another reason to keep watching for the next 50 years.
