Appearances in novels and audio stories aside, the last time we saw The Monk, the 1st Doctor had stranded him on a desolate ice planet with a broken Tardis. Once rumored to be making an appearance in NewWho played by Patrick Stewart, the rival Time Lord has yet to appear. Could he have been drafted into The Time War? The Doctor claims that he would sense another living Time Lord so we may be forced to assume that The Monk is gone forever. Unless The Monk happened to have in his possession a certain fob watch...
39. Why Are Ian And Barbara Said To Have Stopped Aging?
In The Sarah Jane Adventures episode, "The Death of The Doctor," Sarah Jane Smith says that Ian and Barbara eventually married became professors, live in Cambridge and are said to have not aged since the 60s. If this is true, why have the Doctor's first companions stopped aging? Is it an inadvertent byproduct of lengthy travel in the Tardis? As seen with River Song, if a child conceived in the Tardis could pick up Time Lord characteristics, what about adult passengers? Having pored over the 1st Doctor's adventures with Ian and Barbara, I can find no in-universe reason for them to have stopped aging. With William Russell's Ian Chesterton rumoured to appear in the 50th anniversary episode, The Day of The Doctor maybe this question will finally be answered.
