Doctor Who: 50 Unanswered Questions

42. Is There A Difference Between Renewal And Regeneration?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmXoHKzp4Lc In the real world, we know that renewal was simply a writer's initial conception of the concept that later writers evolved into the regeneration as we know it today. But in the context of the Doctor Who universe is this simply a different name for regeneration? Let's look at the facts. First, it is the only transformation by the Doctor that is referred to as a "renewal." Second, the Doctor says following his transformation, "Its part of the Tardis. Without it I couldn't survive," giving the impression that this is less of an alien biological evolutionary adaptation but a technological trick of the Tardis. One thing that is certain it is implied that at the very least, the Tardis gave the renewal process a push, enabling the 2nd Doctor to spring to life. This begs the question, is the 2nd Doctor simply a more youthful version of the First Doctor simply de-aged by the Tardis?

41. Whatever Happened To Susan?

doctor who susan Add to The Doctor's crimes the charge of child abandonment. You have to question the character of a man who dumps his only living relative on a devastated, technologically backwards planet with the first man she ever had a crush on. Especially when that only living relative is probably only a toddler by the standards of his culture. Great parenting there, Doctor. Other than an appearance in the 20th anniversary special "The 5 Doctors," Susan Foreman has yet to make a return to the screen since The Dalek Invasion of Earth. She hasn't completely disappeared from Doctor Who however, making her return in the 8th Doctor's "An Earthly Child," with further appearances alongside the 8th Doctor. Yet even if these stories are to be considered canon, questions still remain about her fate. The 9th Doctor claimed that he was the last of the Time Lords and the 10th Doctor claimed that he could sense if there were other surviving Time Lords. Is Susan really dead and if so how did she die? Did she ever regenerate? Did she ever return to Gallifrey? Was she drafted to fight in the Time War?
