3. Max Warp
"Just smile and stick out your bits" A genuinely funny whodunnit which see's Paul McGann's Doctor channel Sherlock Holmes and the writers poke fun at Top Gear. A thinly veiled yet over the top parody of Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson ALMOST makes xenophobia, sexism and anti-environmental attitudes funny and to see Lucie Miller dealing with the Doctor's disturbing space ship fetish and the Clarkson clone's claims that she isn't dumb or cute enough to appeal to his audience. The chemistry between McGann and Sheridan makes this tale work and while it helps if you've seen Top Gear, her ribbing the Doctor over his "Time and Relative Dimensions in a Shed" and his reaction to it are almost better than the running about while conducting their investigation. Combine that with a spindroid (a robot Malcolm Tucker without the profanity but just as cynically politically driven) with Lucie fending off the romantics advances of a suitor who only wants to talk about space ship engines and you get a hilarious outing from the 8th Doctor and co. Let it not be said that Max Warp is lacking for action, a cliffhanger involving The Doctor and Lucie trapped in a crashing star ship has listeners genuinely wondering how they will get out of this predicament. The mystery surrounding the death of daredevil pilot Timbo "the ferret" will also have you guessing, until The Doctor solves the case.
