4. Horror Of Glam Rock
"Just like my Bentley. Only less expensive to replace!" This audio adventure gets marks from me just for the sheer audacity of its title. Immediately paying tribute to "The Horror of Fang Rock," while also taking the mickey out of it. Bernard Cribbins (Wilf) makes his third appearance in Doctor Who, this time as the Manager of glam rock duo The Tomorrow Twins. The Doctor and Lucie have landed for a bite to eat at the M62 Motorway, but there is something looking to take a bite out of them... Still trying to get Lucie back to her own time period, following the events of Blood of the Daleks, the closest the Tardis will take them is to 1974. The Doctor's edwardian dress has him right at home among the long haired glam rockers and Lucie continues to be 'not your typical companion' as she is more put off by the glam rock wardrobe of a mangled corpse than the cadaver itself. Despite the many gruesome deaths of the cornered occupants of the M62 Motorway, Bernard Crippins keeps the mood light with his quips before and after various and sundry characters are devoured. Paul McGann continues to impress with virtually every emotion on display and with a vocal performance that rivals anything done by any on screen Doctor. Lines referring to the attacking creatures as "magnificent," are reminiscent of Tom Baker's Doctor The Horror of Glam Rock captures the "base under siege," formula and revitalizes it for the 21st century. This is old school Doctor Who for today's audience. Oh and you haven't truly lived until you've heard the Doctor Who theme performed like its a 70's rock song.
