Halfway between sinister face-snatching and a period drama, 'The Idiot's Lantern' is almost parodyish; the subplot involving the family is far more interesting, too. The smugness is high again.
74. The Sontaran Stratagem / The Poison Sky
The Sontarans are back and using SatNavs to conquer Earth; we've seen worldwide attacks in RTD's era enough by this point not care all that much though. Plus, fake Martha's death is heroically awkward.
73. The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood
The Silurian redesign is beautiful, but apart from that, there's not much to report back from this double-parter, apart from Rory dying (he came back though, so it's no big deal).
72. New Earth
A first date for Rose and Ten, Lady Cassandra returns. It's a largely forgettable adventure, saved by some mildly interesting dialogue and playful comic acting from Tennant and Piper.
71. The Lazarus Experiment
Mark Gatiss stars as an elderly scientist trying to make himself younger. It's fascinating and comic book-esque, but fairly predictable in the end.
