Doctor Who: All Doctors Ranked From Worst To Best

14. The Meta Crisis Doctor - David Tennant

Best Episode: Journey's End. Worst Episode: Er...Journey's End. Technically he counts as a regeneration and as such should be documented on this list. Shot by a Dalek at the end of The Stolen Earth in what was possibly the best cliffhanger of the RTD era, the Tenth Doctor siphoned off his regeneration energy into his hand in a jar. That hand was famously cut off by a Sycorax when the Tenth Doctor was still dealing with his post regeneration trauma way back in The Christmas Invasion. The Tenth Doctor's DNA was mixed with Donna Noble's, making her half Time Lord and him half human. For real this time - just ignore that statement made by the Eighth Doctor in the TV movie. David Tennant was a great Doctor, but this meta-crisis version must sure place last in this list for the simple fact that he was only in one episode and his soul plot-purpose was to reunite Rose with her lost love. But there is more to him that a plot device. While we've seen plenty of dark Doctor moments before, the meta-crisis's single action in Journey's End might be one of the darkest; committing the genocide of the entire Dalek race, at least for a couple of years. Before Matt Smith's swan song in Time Of The Doctor, this meta-crisis regeneration had never had a defined place. But the moment Matt Smith referred to the vanity issues of his predecessor, this version became the Twelfth Doctor. Yes everyone calls Peter Capaldi's Doctor the Twelfth, but he's actually the fourteenth version, except that he is the Twelfth Doctor if you count the meta-crisis and War Doctors as not 'Doctors' in the traditional sense. Still with us?
