Doctor Who: Jon Pertwee’s 10 Best Episodes

9. Frontier In Space

Doctor Who Frontier In SpaceEpisode: Season 10 , Episode 3 Companion: Jo Featuring a rare 'space-opera' from Doctor Who and sadly the last appearance of Roger Delgado as The Master before his untimely death, Frontier In Space is an underrated gem. Set during the 25th century, the story concerns the Doctor and Jo trying to prevent a war being orchestrated between the two great space empires of Earth and Draconia. Behind the war, The Master €“ along with his allies the Daleks €“ are waiting for the moment of weakness to take over. It'd be fair to say Frontier isn't the Third Doctor's most exciting episode €“ much of it is set aboard spaceships upon which the Doctor and Jo have found themselves captured. However, the story itself is fascinating and features great characters like the guilt-ridden General Williams. The supposed 'villains' of the piece €“ the Draconians €“ were Pertwee's favorites and it's not hard to see why. They're superbly written, with a compelling back story and a fascinating society which is only enhanced by the absolutely gorgeous design of the creatures themselves. Delgado is (as always) on fine form in his final outing as The Master, while it's also wonderful to see the Daleks dim-witted servants the Ogrons return. The Daleks only appear fleetingly but its one of the shows best reveals €“ they look great and it's a genuine shock to see them. We can even forgive the orange carrier bag monster. Well, maybe not.
