Doctor Who: Ranking The Introductions Of Every Doctor
11. The Twin Dilemma
As introductions go, this is possibly the worst for any new character in all of television. The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) spends the first half of the story bickering with his inherited companion Peri, who takes an instant dislike to the new man in her life, especially his choice of rainbow style. In his troubled state, The Doctor tries to strangle his companion in the most violent act the Time Lord has ever attempted on his crew. The plan was to make an initially unlikeable Doctor before revealing the warmer core of the character as the seasons went on. It started to pan out in that sense, with The Doctor coming across as pompous and arrogant, considering himself the greatest specimen in the universe. Peri was right about his style with that garish costume, though - it really was unsuitable for the lead character of a drama series. For those still watching, The Doctor meets a Time Lord known as Azmael who together foil the plans of the Gastropods to spread their eggs across the galaxy through an enormous explosion, worked out by kidnapped Earth twins Romulus and Remus via their mathematical equations. Whovians have never let the BBC forget how awful this story is, having voted it the worst in the show's history, in Doctor Who Magazine polls conducted in 1998, 2009 and 2014. Sadly it set the tone for an era full of poor scripts and poor production with an overuse of violence. As first impressions go, this was a failure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcwiXY7YCyY
