Doctor Who Series 8: 10 Exciting Details And Rumours (February Update)

5. Moffat Won't Try And Explain Former "Plot Holes"

If you're still hoping for answers to how the Doctor and Clara escaped the time-stream, you're probably not going to get it. That's a sad fact for many of Moffat's Who, and though the Moff tried to tie up some of the threads with 'The Time of the Doctor', it doesn't seem like he'll be doing it again any time soon. That's what he said at least, when questioned over the plot holes in both Doctor Who and Sherlock (not that he thinks they're plot holes): I think people have come to think a plot hole is something which isn't explained on screen. A plot hole is actually something that can't be explained," he claimed. "Sometimes you expect the audience to put two and two together for themselves. For Sherlock, and indeed Doctor Who, I've always made the assumption that the audience is clever." It does seem like the Twelfth Doctor is a completely new slate for the show; Doctor Who has an opportunity to reinvent itself again, and given what Moffat's said in previous years about flipping the show on its head and changing the structure and dynamic, don't be surprised if Peter Capaldi's time in the TARDIS isn't as timey-wimey as Matt Smith's.
