Doctor Who Series 8: 15 Obscure Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

11. The First Doctor Learnt From Clara (Listen)

As if saving the Doctor at countless points across his time-stream, including suggesting he takes a certain TARDIS, wasn't enough, Series 8 saw Clara have another important impact on his life. Brought to the earliest point in the Time Lord's life we've seen thus far, Clara finds him as a scared child (in the same barn he'd revisit in The Day Of The Doctor). Unwittingly becoming the unseen monster that has terrified him for millennia, she delivers a speech to calm him, including the statement "fear makes companions of us all." This evidently had an impact, because in The Forest of Fear, the third ever episode of the whole show, the First Doctor delivers a near-identical speech to Barbara Wright. It's not just nice little dialogue reference (of which there's many in Series 8), but an actual expansion of the mythos, ret-conning Clara to be even more important in his past.
