Doctor Who Series 8: 15 Obscure Easter Eggs You Probably Missed
9. The Doctor Still Remembers The Time Warrior (Listen)
When waking up just after Clara's been in the barn in Listen, the Doctor mutters some out-of-nowhere dialogue to Orson Pink; "Sontarans perverting the course of human history." Far from being some random line, however, it's a reference to The Time Warrior, a Third Doctor adventure that sees a Sontaran, crash-landed in medieval England, meddle with the present. One of the first explicit time-meddling stories in the show, it serves as a starting point for much of the modern show's timey-wimey action. But here's the really cool bit; this was also the first line spoken by the Fourth Doctor while still groggy from his regeneration. Does the Doctor's mind keep going back to the this story whenever he loses consciousness? Clearly the adventure, which marked the introduction of the Sontarans, Sarah Jane Smith and the name Gallifrey has had a big impact on the Doctor (as well as the show's writers).
