Doctor Who Series 8: 15 Obscure Easter Eggs You Probably Missed
8. There Really Was A Bubble Wrap Mummy (Mummy On The Orient Express)
When opening the sarcophagus in Mummy On The Orient Express Clara comments that it just contains "bubble-wrap". Now this one is pretty obscure and could just be a throwaway joke, but there's enough specific links for this to be a genuine easter egg; the monster in The Ark In Space (which also featured Kill The Moon's yo-yo) was a once mummified insect that was, in real life, made out of bubble wrap painted green. What's more impressive - that a BBC drama in the seventies would go with such a simple effect, or that a BBC drama in the teenies would make reference to it - is uncertain. Doctor Who was always known for it's pretty cheap special effects (something critics of recent series would say has carried over into the questionable CGI), but this one isn't as lazy as you may think; bubble-wrap was still a pretty new and novel idea at the time.
