Doctor Who Series 8: Everything We Know So Far

4. Clara Will Get More Character Development

Clara Oswald. The Impossible Girl. The Woman Twice Dead. Or (if you prefer) the enigma wrapped in a riddle squeezed into a skirt that€™s just a bit too tight. Well that€™s who she was until last year. Now she€™s just Clara Oswald; Coal Hill School teacher and companion to the Doctor. This series, rather being defined by her status as the Impossible Girl, Clara will become more of a character in her own right, now that the mystery of her existence has been solved. We saw the first stages of this at the start of The Day Of The Doctor where she€™d settled into a full-time teaching job, and properly met her family in The Time Of The Doctor. But it looks like Series 8 will be where we really delve deeper into what makes her tick. Relationships would seem to be the biggest factor for Clara's character development, with Danny being introduced as a potential love interest, and a BBC source quoted in the Radio Times mentioning that Capaldi€™s Doctor is €œmore of a mystery€ and that Clara has to €œtry and gauge him€. A typically ambiguous hint about more development for Clara came from Steven Moffat in Doctor Who Magazine, replying to a reader comment that Clara's relationship with the Tardis is because she is sceptical and hard to impress, and is "almost like it's building to something".
