Doctor Who: Six Reasons To Revive The 6th And 7th Doctors
4. Both Actors Still Play The Character
If you're a Doctor Who fan and haven't heard of Big Finish then you are legally obligated to go straight to YouTube and listen to some clips of their audio stories. The company produces a lot of fantastic plays, though is probably best known for producing licensed Doctor Who adventures using all five of the remaining pre-2005 Doctor actors. Big Finish has had a profound effect on the revived television series, such as the Sixth Doctor story, 'Jubilee', inspiring Robert Shearman's 2005 episode 'Dalek' and the Eighth Doctor referencing his audio companions by name in 'Night of the Doctor'. Whilst Big Finish's licence doesn't let them utilise elements of the revived series, the audio stories are the closest approximation of the modern series format featuring classic Doctors. Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy are prolific contributors to the Big Finish works, so will have no trouble getting back into character when they finally reach the set and the age of the actors can easily be explained away with a deft flick of the pen. As will be explored later, the Big Finish adventures has addressed many of the unanswered questions of the Seventh Doctor's era and given the Sixth Doctor the payoff on his character development that wasn't afforded to him in the show. Thanks to McCoy, Baker and Big Finish, these two incarnations are not quite the same men they were when they left our screens and a minisode would be a great acknowledgement of how far they've come.
