The Eighth Doctor

Eighth Doctor LogoThe Style: Where's the face! Words! Lots of words! This is a bizarre creation which is more like a closing sequence again. Given as the closing sequence is actually just scrolling credits against black it's pretty much all we have to go off. The sequence actually starts off pretty well with the logo bursting out of a cosmic explosion and zooming into the screen. After a pause it gets a bit awkward and just kind of turns around and shuffles off into the time vortex. I don't know what this is meant to represent as it just looks awkward. The only thing it is indicative of is Sylvester McCoy's participation in the film. He's back, ok now we have to get rid of him as soon as possible. After the logo has showed itself, the sequence doesn't really have anywhere to go. So we have this extended time tunnel sequence with all the cast and crew in it that just gets really boring really quickly but we do get to see a cool representation of the TARDIS time travelling, but by that time we are technically in part of the story. Not a fan of this one. Score: 3 Logo: Another weird one because it is basically the old Pertwee logo but blue. At least they chose one of the best versions, it looks like it is being taken seriously, Doctor Who as a brand. I can't really say much more than that. Score: 7 The Theme: Again, really weird. For some reason performed on piano and opens with the middle eight. It's like a tasteful version of the McCollough theme but again it misses the mark. It doesn't have the otherworldly quality and it doesn't fit the ethos of the programme or notion of the character. It's almost just noise, melodic noise admittedly, but it doesn't say anything about the programme, it just appeases the fans but is linked stylistically with our classical Eighth Doctor . Score: 3

Overall Score: 13
